Visitors. Part 2

It's become my habit to check my Google account a few times every day to see what sort of visitors I'm getting.I'm very often surprised by what I see.I now know that most of the folks viewing this blog came here from the website link......no surprise there. But, what has me intrigued is my visitor from India. I'm able to see percentage rates for the spot where the vistors come from and it looks like he ( or she) came here from an Indian based blog. I went to that blog myself and have no clue how he ( or she) got here from there.
We're still not having as much success with the penpal area as I'd like. Going to have to put on my "thinking cap"( as the nuns at Sacred Heart would say).

You'll want to add some content to the penpals page that includes your targeted search terms (terms such as "dumaguete penpals" or "dumaguete philippines penpals"). Before anything else, I would change the TITLE tag on that page from "penpals" to a nice 4 or 5-word sentence that includes these keywords and explains what the page is about (no more than 7 or 8 words). Also, that graphical text at the top which says "Penpals" will need something like the following included in the IMG tag in your HTML:

alt="Search for Penpals in Dumaguete, Philippines here!"

Search engines don't like images, especially those that don't contain any alternate text that they can read.

So many things to think about.

Also, when you are adding a new entry to this blog here try to include "Dumaguete" or "Philippines" in the titles. So, instead of "Visitors" you could say, "Visitors to the New Dumaguete Website". However, I wouldn't change any of the existing names since Blogger doesn't always update as it should.

These ideas can help make your site more visible. And if you can find Dumaguete-related sites that are willing to link to your site that is always a plus in the eyes of the search engines. Leave comments on other blogs, along with the URL to your dumaguete site (an active link that can be clicked, instead of just writing out the URL as text...this gives the search engine spiders a nice door to your site). There are many ways to gather traffic.

Very little of my traffic so far has actually come from my position on Blogger.com's search results. They either come from Google and Yahoo!, or they are referred from another blog where I have posted a comment. However, I have also seen referral sources which did not contain my link...and I'm not sure how they got to me either.

Good luck with all of this!

Hi Corey,
Everything you say is on the money and I appreciate your suggesstions. There's a lot to be done.
The problem with the penpals page is that so far we've had few filipinas sign up for this.My sister-in-law has put up posters in a number of internet cafes....we've received some responses but not nearly enough to make the area what it could be.
Cathy has cousins who also want to be profiled butthey aren't familiar enough with computers. They would be learning as they went and that means spending too much money at the cafe learning what to do.
